My second most anticipated movie of 2013….

And with the GREAT Ben Kingsley as the heavy I have no doubt this movie is going to be fantastic. I am very excited for this one!!! I suspect at least one of my 2 loyal readers will agree with me! Kingsley is one of the greatest acting talents of this era and I am fully eager to see him portray The Mandarin…. What say you Ray? Yeah, or Ney? I think Yeah…..yes I do….Mandarin

A fairly big scoop on Star Trek Into Darkness

Director J.J. Abrams sat down with MTV and gave a short interview about this summer’s forthcoming Star Trek sequel and innocently enough he may have let slip a key issue in the closely guarded plot of the film. He revealed personally who it is, actress Alice Eve will be playing in the movie. Does this point a finger at who Benedict Cumberbatch could be playing? You can decide for yourself but here is the short interview with Abrams where he confirms who it is Eve is playing in the film. I actually touched on this last month in a post. I thought it was a very good possibility and Abrams has now confirmed it.

I’m not sure about this one…..

But that won’t stop me from talking about it! The Creater of FX’s The Shield (starring Michael Chiklis), Shawn Ryan has been working to create another new cop-procedural for television. His new vision is actually an old vision. Ryan has been working with some serious talent (Barry Sonnenfeld and Eddie Murphy) to create a Beverly Hills Cop television show. Yep. You heard it here first and the pilot has been greenlit. We can expect to see BHC at least once later this fall. The show will air on CBS this fall and the lead role is going to played by Brandon T. Jackson who’s most famous work to date is his part in the movie Tropic Thunder (“What do you mean…you people?…”)
In the pilot, Jackson will play Aaron Foley, the son of Murphy’s Axel Foley who is a new detective in Beverly Hills dealing with cases surrounding the rich and powerful. Eddie Murphy will have a recurring role, reportedly in the pilot episode he is the Chief of The Detroit Police Department who introduces some plot threat involving his son. Barry Sonnenfeld (MIB) will be directing the pilot. Actor Kevin Pollack has just been cast to appear in the series as Rodney Daloof, the Beverly Hills PD on staff lawyer who’s job it is to keep the department from getting sued by the rich and famous. Also joining the cast is David Denman who most recently played Roy on The Office. Denman is reportedly playing a character named Brad Fullmer who is described as a “Billy Rosewood” (Judge Reinhold) type character assisting young Foley on his various cases. Beverly Hills Cop has a “guarantee” with CBS so that no matter how crappy the pilot is, the show will still air or else the studio must pay a hefty fee to the shows producers. That’s a good deal if you can get it! At the moment CBS is very happy with its other police procedural re-boot, Hawaii 5-0 so they are keen to take a chance on another unique cop show. According to sources yes, the traditional BHC humor is expected to make it into the series although as its a network production you can safely assume that it will be sanitized to within an inch of its life. Any interest? My jury is still out but I’m thinking probably not. Been there, done that.

I’ve been uncomfortably preoccupied in recent days and haven’t had much time or inclination to post. Things are easing up a bit and now I’m on the search for something interesting to post that hasn’t really been touched on much. Since I’m on the lookout for something, I thought of this screenshot of the week. Another fellow on the lookout for something interesting. Everybody should know this movie, right?

"I didn't know they could do that!"

Days of Future Past….looking excellent!

A lot has been said over the last few years about Brett Ratner’s take on the X-Men (X-Men United) and first off I’m going to say I liked that movie. A Lot. With the exception of the way in which he (apparently) killed off Scott Summers aka Cyclops, I thought the movie was great fun. I know the Wolverine stand alone movie is coming out later this summer but any more I find the concept of blended hero or “team” based films more to my liking. I think Joss and Avengers has me spoiled. I for one really liked X-Men First Class even with the re-casting of our X-heroes with younger actors. James McAvoy did a great job as Professor X and Mr. Fassbender did an excellent job of bringing a young Magneto to the big screen. Jennifer Lawrence absolutely channeled Mystique while good service was done ( I believe) to my X – Fav, Beast along with other notable characters from that early period. Well now another sequel, Days of Future Past, is in the works and most of the principals from the first re-boot are returning but the exciting news is director Bryan Singer (Yes, that Bryan Singer!) is bringing in some folks from the original X trilogy. It has been confirmed that Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and True Blood’s Anna Paquin are all signed up to reprise their respective X-roles in the new film. I don’t know if they are appearing to set up a flashback sequence or for the time travel elements that were present in the original comic book plot line – information is scarce at this time….But I can say I’m excited to see them do this. I think Hugh Jackman is a fantastic Wolverine to be sure but after X-Men Origins, I am pretty firmly convinced that I enjoy the team based film’s a bit more.
For fans of X-Men comics I can tell you that it has been revealed that the famous Sentinals will be making a huge splash in the new movie. Sentinals, giant robots with special weapons and programming were designed to hunt down and murder mutants, will be one of the major obstacles in Days of Future Past. I didn’t mention it before but it appears this movie might be the biggest X-film of all time. In December it was confirmed that Hugh Jackman will be appearing in the film as Wolverine.
What I can tell you about the plot of the comic as well as this movie is, we find ourselves in a future world where these giant Sentinels roam the earth, their one purpose, to seek out and exterminate mutants. In order to prevent this future earth from existing, one special mutant travels back in time to prevent it….

I can’t confirm it yet (because I don’t feel like digging any deeper at the moment) but it appears Warners is trying to coax both Halle Berry and James Marsden to appear in the film reprising their X-Men roles as well….This is really shaping up to be a big deal for Marvel. I hope they can make it happen as all the elements that they have brought together thus far are quite frankly…..cool.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to be in theaters June 2014

No title really…..just a less than grand week.

Having a really not so great week. Feel a bit like a leper with a crosshair aimed right at the spot between my eyes. And that sort of reminded me of this movie…..this scene in particular. I already posted my screenshot of the week and since my brain is too tired to research an interesting story, I thought I’d share yet another piece of still-frame art….something I love. Anybody know the name of this movie??

A little more to the right....Yes....that's it!

Ahh yes….that magic time of the week. Was feeling in the mood for a laugh and as we just recently passed another sad anniversary – John Belushi’s birthday was January 24th – were he still with us he would be 64. That is hard to believe. Well, I will always think of him as the seventh year sophomore from this brilliant, classic comedy. (clue – its the one where his grade point average was 0.0….if you actually needed a clue.)Animal House 3
